Day 3: SNL

For those who do not know, Saturday Night Live is an American late-night comedy show that is hosted each time by a different celebrity guest. Last night to early this morning, Saturday Night Live was on and Kevin Hart was the host. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis were guest performers. They performed their hit song “Thrift Shop” and another one called “Can’t Hold Us.”

As noted in my Day 2’s post, I was at my friend’s birthday party/sleepover. Well, what is a sleepover if you don’t dance to “Thrift Shop”? That is exactly what we did. We stayed up watching Saturday Night Live just to listen to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis perform “Thrift Shop” live. At the same time, we danced and rocked out. It was an interesting night/morning, to say the least.

Aw, I missed it, But I found out about ‘Thrift Shop’ a couple months ago and literally right after it popped up everywhere in my life. It was my friend’s favorite song, someone referenced it in class… I don’t know if it was the whole ”I don’t know it so I don’t notice” effect or if it really did suddenly pop up everywhere…

  2. It’s funny how SNL has faded and then rejuvenated itself so many times over the years, and I had this vision of you all jumping around to Thrift Shop. I guess the show is still relevant, because my older son had his friends over on Saturday night, and they were watching, too.

  3. Wow, these people at the sleepover must’ve been pretty awesome! I’m sure at least one of them knew all the words… Anyway, it is a truly unique thing to find a rapper that’s fun yet also meaningful. Maybe “Thrift shop” was pretty shallow, but after listening to more of Macklemore’s music, he really does have some great messages and is very different from most rappers today.
